It has 600,000+ students across 100+ countries and regions, 4,000+ certified teachers and a parent rating of 4.8/5.
Each subject has its own course page explaining what is taught. This page answers the questions that apply to every subject: the free trial, pricing, the S$100 FairPrice voucher, teachers, scheduling, privacy and how to get started.
How does WuKong work, from free trial to regular lessons?
Families start with WuKong Chinese through one completely free trial lesson and then move through four steps: booking, a level assessment by the teacher, a personalised learning plan, and regular live 1-on-1 lessons. An advisor contacts you within 1 business day of booking, and advisors never collect payment before a lesson.
- Book a free trial: tell us about your child in about a minute and pick a time.

Free trial and prices
Is the trial lesson really free? Do I need a credit card?
Yes, it is genuinely free. New students can book one completely free live 1-on-1 trial lesson, with no payment and no credit card required. WuKong's advisors never collect payment before a lesson, so the trial is simply a chance to see how your child gets on with the teacher before you decide anything.
How much do regular lessons cost?
Regular lessons are from S$12 each. The exact rate depends on the lesson package and the subject, so an advisor quotes it after the free trial, based on your child's learning plan. Families who enrol in a one-year package also receive a S$100 FairPrice e-voucher. Apart from that voucher, there are no other discounts, bonus lessons or cashback offers.
How do I get the S$100 FairPrice voucher?
Families who enrol in a one-year package receive a S$100 FairPrice e-voucher by email in the same week they enrol, and it is valid for one year. The voucher is issued only after enrolment and is not given at the trial stage. This is a standing policy rather than a limited-time offer, so there is no deadline to rush for.
What can the FairPrice voucher be used for, and do we keep it if we withdraw?
The voucher is a FairPrice e-voucher for shopping at FairPrice, a supermarket in Singapore, and it stays valid for one year. It cannot be exchanged for cash and cannot be used to pay lesson fees. If a family later decides to withdraw from lessons, WuKong does not ask for the voucher back.
Are there any other discounts or free lessons?
No. Apart from the S$100 FairPrice e-voucher for families who enrol in a one-year package, WuKong has no other discounts, bonus lessons or cashback offers. The one free trial lesson for new students is the only free lesson, and regular lessons are from S$12 each, with the exact rate quoted by an advisor after the trial.
Will anyone ask me to pay before a lesson?
No. WuKong's advisors never collect payment before a lesson. The trial lesson is completely free and needs no credit card, and an advisor quotes the price of regular lessons after the trial, based on your child's learning plan and the lesson package. You can then decide in your own time whether to continue.
Teachers and lessons
Who are WuKong's teachers?
WuKong's lessons are taught by certified native teachers. Every teacher passes a rigorous interview, and the teachers have more than five years of teaching experience on average. WuKong has 4,000+ certified teachers, and every lesson is taught live and 1-on-1 in real time, so your child works directly with a real teacher rather than a recording.
What does “certified teacher” mean at WuKong?
WuKong's contracted Chinese teachers must hold a recognised teaching qualification and a Putonghua (Mandarin) proficiency certificate. Every teacher goes through a multi-stage hiring process that includes a language interview, a teaching demonstration and a background check, and WuKong accepts about 1% of the teachers who apply. Its teachers have more than five years of teaching experience on average. For maths and English, ask your advisor about the specific teacher's qualifications.
How are lessons tailored to my child?
Every lesson is shaped around your child's level and interests. After you book, the teacher assesses your child's current level and goals, and a learning plan then sets the content and pace. Because every class is live and 1-on-1, the lesson follows your child rather than a group's pace, and an advisor follows up personally after class.
How long is each lesson?
Chinese lessons are usually about 30 minutes long; some Chinese courses and levels use longer lessons, and maths and English lessons can be longer too. The advisor confirms the exact length with you after the trial, based on your child's subject and learning plan. The time and length of the free trial lesson are confirmed when the advisor arranges it with you.
What ages does WuKong teach?
WuKong teaches learners aged 3–18, covering preschool, primary and secondary school, and adult learners are welcome too. Teachers pitch the content to each child's current level, so the same subject looks very different for a three-year-old and for a secondary school student.
Which subjects can my child study?
WuKong teaches three subjects: Chinese, maths and English, each tailored to your child's level and interests. Whichever subject you choose, lessons are live and 1-on-1, and the teacher assesses your child's level and goals before a learning plan is made. The Chinese, maths and English course pages explain in detail what each subject covers.
Is WuKong's Chinese course a PSLE or O-Level (SEC from 2027) preparation course?
No. WuKong's Chinese courses follow WuKong's own levels and are not built around Singapore's MOE syllabus or exam formats, so they are not a PSLE or O-Level preparation programme. General skills such as speaking, reading and writing overlap with parts of these exams. For reference, PSLE Chinese (0005), set by SEAB and MOE, assesses writing (20%), language use and comprehension (45%), an oral exam (25%, reading aloud plus a conversation about a short video) and listening (10%). If your child is preparing for a school exam, mention it when you book so the teacher can take it into account.
My child is a complete beginner or grew up overseas. Can they keep up?
Yes. The teacher assesses your child's level first and then tailors the content and pace, so complete beginners and children who already have some background follow different learning paths. The same applies to children who grew up overseas: the plan starts from where your child actually is, not from an assumed level for their age.
Learning at home and progress
How does scheduling work across time zones?
WuKong's lessons run across all time zones and can be booked flexibly, at any time that suits your family. When you book the free trial, you choose a convenient time, and an advisor uses it to arrange a teacher and confirm the lesson with you. After lessons, an advisor also follows up with you personally.
What does my child need for an online lesson?
Your child needs a computer or a tablet with a camera, a microphone and a stable internet connection. On a tablet, lessons run in the WuKong app; on a computer, they run in a web browser such as Chrome. A headset with a built-in microphone helps your child hear the teacher clearly and be heard, and a quiet spot away from the TV helps them focus. It is worth testing the camera and sound before the first lesson.
Should I sit with my child during the lesson?
For young children, and for any child's first online lessons, it helps to sit with them: to sort out the device and sound, settle a shy child, and, for the youngest, help them follow what the teacher says. You do not need to teach the subject yourself; the teacher leads the lesson at your child's level. As children get used to learning online, many need less help, but it is still a good idea for lessons to happen in a shared room with a parent within earshot.
What happens after the free trial lesson?
During the trial, the teacher gets a sense of your child's level and goals. Afterwards, the advisor talks you through how the trial went and suggests a learning plan. The trial itself is free and nothing is charged for it. If you decide to continue, regular lessons are bought as a prepaid package, and the advisor explains the price and terms before you pay; there is no deadline to decide.
How will I know how my child is getting on?
Every WuKong class comes with a learning report and personalised suggestions, and teachers provide a progress report every month. Lessons also include regular assignments and short quizzes with feedback from the teacher. Between reports you can ask the advisor at any time, and it is worth watching for concrete signs too: whether your child says more in Chinese, recognises characters they could not read before, and looks forward to lessons.
Can we change teachers if it is not a good fit?
Yes. If your child and the teacher are not a good match, tell your advisor and WuKong will arrange a different teacher; the same applies if you would like a different advisor. Many children need a lesson or two to warm up to someone new, so it is worth giving a new teacher a couple of lessons unless something is clearly not working.
Booking and contact
How soon will someone contact me after I book?
An advisor will contact you within 1 business day of your booking, using the email address or phone number you provided, to confirm the lesson time and the teacher. If you would like to reach WuKong yourself in the meantime, you can email support@wukong-chinese.com.
How is my personal information used?
The information you share when booking is used mainly to arrange the trial lesson and to contact you about it: the form asks for your child's details, your contact details and a convenient time, which is what the advisor needs to set up the right lesson. It is also used to record which promotion channel the booking came from, to detect fraud and fake bookings, and to analyse and improve our service and promotion. WuKong does not sell or rent your personal information, and the Privacy Policy explains each use in full.
How do I get started?
Getting started takes four steps. First, book a free trial lesson by telling us about your child in about a minute and picking a time. The teacher then assesses your child's level and goals, a learning plan sets the content and pace, and your child starts live 1-on-1 lessons. You can book the free trial from this page.
How can I contact WuKong Chinese?
You can email WuKong Chinese at support@wukong-chinese.com. If you have already booked a free trial, an advisor will contact you within 1 business day by the email or phone number you provided to confirm the lesson time and teacher, so there is nothing you need to chase.
